The Sacramento State track and field team unveiled the first members of its 2025 recruiting class with the signing of 10 student-athletes, it was announced today. The class is comprised of six women and four men.

Two student-athletes, Emmanuel Akutey and Skye Camacho, will enroll at Sacramento State this January and will compete for the Hornets in 2025. The remainder of the class will come to campus next fall and be a part of the 2026 team. The majority of the initial recruiting class will compete in jumps (four) and/or sprints (three). The group is also comprised of a thrower, hurdler and multi athlete.

Among the signees are six student-athletes who have scored at their respective state championships. That includes Jayden Thompson who was the Nevada State 5A champion in the 100 and Amarie Riley who was the Nevada State 4A winner in the triple jump. The class also contains a pair of international students in Merle Weber and Charlotte Zeigermann who are both from Germany.

Sacramento State will start its 2025 indoor season on Jan. 17 at the Spokane Sports Showcase and Spokane Indoor Challenge.

Men

Emmanuel Akutey (Throws, Sparks, Nev./Reed HS) Will enroll at Sacramento State prior to the spring semester and compete for the Hornets in 2025. A 2024 graduate of Reed HS in Sparks, Nev. Placed third in the shot put and discus at the Nevada 5A State Championships as a senior. Best marks were 55-08.00 in the shot put and 164-09 in the discus. Was the fourth-ranked member of the class of 2024 in Nevada.

Jamar Andrews Jr. (Jumps, Long Beach, Calif./Jordan HS) Will graduate from Jordan HS in Long Beach, Calif., in 2025. Placed third at the CIF State Championships in the triple jump as a junior in 2024. Ranked third in California in the triple jump in the class of 2025. Set his PR of 47-03.75 in the qualifying rounds of that meet. Was the Moore League champion in the event that same season. Has also competed in the 100, 200, long jump and relays.

Quentin Mitchell (Jumps, Antelope, Calif./Antelope HS) Will graduate from Antelope HS in 2025. Placed 14th at the 2024 CIF State Championships in the high jump and was second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet that same season. Cleared 6-08.00 in the high jump during his junior season for his best. Is the top ranked high jumper in the California among the class of 2025. Top long jump was 20-04.50 at the Capital Valley Conference meet. Qualified for the Junior Olympics in the high jump.

Jayden Thompson (Sprints, Sparks, Nev./Reed HS) Will graduate from Reed HS in Sparks, Nev., in the spring of 2025. Was the Nevada State 5A champion in the 100 and finished fourth in the 200. Top ranked among the class of 2025 in Nevada in the 100. Claimed the title at the Carson League meet in both events. Best times were 10.56 in the 100 and 21.50 in the 200. Qualified for the Junior Olympics in the 100 and 200 in 2024. Ran 10.54 in the 100 at the Pacific Association Championships for his fastest club time. Top 200 club time was 21.49 at the AAU West Coast Nationals.

Women

Skye Camacho (Jumps, Hollister, Calif./Monterey Peninsula JC) Will enroll at Sacramento State prior to the spring semester and compete for the Hornets in 2025. Placed seventh in the high jump and 12th in the long jump at the 2024 CCCAA State Championships. Cleared 5-01.75 (1.57m) at the Kym Dyust Invitational for her PR. Top long jump was 19-00.00 in a dual against Laney. Was fifth in the high jump at the 2023 CCCAA State Championships. Graduated from Hollister HS in 2022. Placed fifth in the high jump at the PCAL Masters Meet and was second at the Gabilan Division Finals as a senior.

Victoria Chatter (Sprints, Clovis, Calif./Buchanan HS) Will graduate from Buchanan HS in Clovis, Calif., in 2025. Placed 17th at the CIF State Championships in the 100 in 2024. Was the Tri-Rivers Athletics Conference champion in the 100 and 200 and finished second at the Central Section Masters Meet in both events that same season. Fastest times were 11.82 in the 100 and 24.20 in the 200 at the TRAC meet and 57.25 in the 400. Ran the leadoff leg on the 4x100 relay team which won the TRAC title, was third at the Central Section Masters Meet and placed 23rd at the state meet. Ranked fourth in the California class of 2025 200 and sixth in the 100. Qualified for the 2023 Junior Olympics in the 200. Competed at the CIF State Championships in the 200 as a freshman while attending Miramote HS.

Jaylin Hunter (Sprints, Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) Will graduate from Long Beach Poly HS in 2025. Ran the second leg for the 4x100 relay team which finished in second place at the 2024 CIF State Championships. Led off the 4x400 relay team which had the fastest time in the qualifying round of the state meet. Was second at the Moore League finals and fifth at the Southern Section finals in the 400 as a junior. Top times are 24.69 in the 200 as a sophomore and 56.04 in the 400 as a junior. Ranked ninth in the 400 among California class of 2025.

Amarie Riley (Hurdles/Jumps, Las Vegas, Nev./Duragno HS) Will graduate from Durango HS in Las Vegas in 2025. Was champion in the triple jump and placed third at the Nevada 4A State Championships in the 300-hurdles as a junior. Recorded her longest triple jump of 38'2.75' at the Great Southwest Classic. Posted a time of 45.85 in the state finals to set her 300H PR. Won the Nevada Southern 4A Region title that same year. Ran the opening leg on the 4x400 relay team which placed fifth in the region. As a sophomore, she placed first in the triple jump and was fourth in the 300-hurdles & anchored the 4x100 relay team which also claimed the state title at the Nevada 3A State Championships. Finished second at the Nevada 3A State Championships in the triple jump as a freshman.

Merle Weber (Multi/Jumps, Bornheim, Germany) Scored 4,775 points in the heptathlon during the summer of 2024. Placed 16th in the heptathlon at the German U18 Combined Event Championships in 2024. Top high jump during the year was 5-06.50 (1.69m). Personal bests in high jump of 1.72m and 4.47 in the long jump. Was the 2022 German U16 national champion in the high jump. Cleared 5-03.00 or better in four meets during her most recent outdoor season.

Charlotte Zeigermann (Jumps, Landsberg, Germany) Set her PR with a long jump of 5.88m in the summer of 2024. Placed ninth in the long jump at the German U20 Championships in 2024. Team placed third in the 4x100m at the German U20 Championships in 2024. Jumped 5.70m or better in four of her five meets that season. Placed fourth in the long jump at the German U18 Championships in 2023
