Miami Track and Field Recruiting
University of Miami Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem announced the addition of ten signees to the Hurricanes Track and Field program.
The Hurricanes signed three spring enrollees to the men’s team and seven additional for the fall semester. Deem and her staff are excited about what the newest Miami track and field family members will bring to the team.
“I’m very excited to welcome our new Hurricanes to campus. I, along with the rest of my staff, believe that these athletes will represent the program and the University of Miami well with their work ethic, attitude, and determination as a student-athlete. I am very much looking forward to what they can contribute this upcoming season” Head Coach Amy Deem said.
Women
Juliana Balon | Jumps/Sprints
Balon makes her way to Coral Gables from Padua Academy in Bear, Delaware. She holds a personal best of 6.18m (20’3.25) in the long jump and was named the 2023 Delaware Gatorade Girls Track Player of the Year. Juliana led her team to the 2023 Delaware Division One State Championship by winning the 100m, 200m, 400m, and Long Jump.
Iyonna Codd | Sprints
Codd joins the Hurricanes from Centennial High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is the 2023 Nevada 5A State Champion in the 100m, 200m and 400m. Iyonna was named the 2023 Gatorade Girls Track Player of the Year. Codd holds personal bests of 11.46 (100m), 23.62 (200m) and 54.37 (400m).
Brittney Jennings | Hurdles/Sprints
Jennings joins Miami from Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, FL. She holds a personal best of 13.59 in the 100mh. Brittney was the 2023 FHSAA 4A Runner-up in the 100mh in a time of 13.87 and won the 60mh at the 2023 Florida Indoor Championships with a time of 8.48.
Janay Moorer | Sprints
Moorer is a native of Creekside High School in Jacksonville, FL. She holds personal bests of 54.19 in the 400m, 24.16 in the 200m, and 11.89 in the 100m. Janay was the 2023 FHSAA 4A Runner-up in the 400m and led her team to the 2023 FHSAA 4A District Two Championship by scoring in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4x400m relay.
Morgan Roundtree | Hurdles/ Sprints
Roundtree joins the Hurricanes from Oak Park High School in Oak Park, Michigan. She holds personal bests of 13.79 (100mh), 41.54 (300mh) and 59.34 (400mh). Roundtree was the 2023 New Balance Outdoor Nationals Champion in the 100mh. At the 2023 MHSAA State Meet, Roundtree was a runner-up in the 300mh in a time of 41.54 and third in the 100mh in 13.86.
Serena Tate | Sprints
Tate joins Miami from Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia. Tate was the 2023 GHSA 7A State Runner-up in the 400m and third place in the 200m. In 2022, she was the GHSA 7A 400m State Champion in the 400m in 54.88. She holds personal bests of 23.93 in the 200m and 53.92 in the 400m.
MEN
Carter Cukerstein | Sprints
Cukerstein comes from the University of Oklahoma, scheduled to join the Hurricanes in the spring semester. The Clifton Park, New York, native holds personal bests of 6.63 (60m), 10.33 (100m), and 21.11 (200m). In 2023, Cukerstein won the JD Martin Invitational 60m in 6.63 seconds.
Devoux Deysel | Throws
Deysel is a transfer from Angelo State University, slated to compete for Miami in the spring semester. The Garsfontein, South Africa native won the NCAA Division II Javelin Throw Championship in 2023 and 2021. He set a personal best of 79.14m (259’8) at the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championships at Pueblo, CO.
Joshua Jones | Middle Distance
Jones will join the Hurricanes in the spring semester from Northwood University. The middle-distance runner from Harrison, Michigan has personal bests of 1:48.45 (800m), 3:46.69 (1500m), 4:10.09 (Mile), and 25:06.5 (8000m). Jones was the 2023 G-MAC Conference indoor runner-up in the 800m.
Lance Ward | Sprints
Ward joins the squad from Harvard University and is originally from Carl Junction, Missouri. Competing in the fall, Ward holds personal bests of 10.32 in the 100m, and 20.65 in the 200m. He is a 4-time Ivy League Champion and qualified for the 2023 NCAA East Region Prelims in the 200m. In 2023, Lance was the Ivy League Outdoor runner-up in the 100, third place in the 200m, and anchored his team to the 4 x 100m Relay Championship.
