University of Washington Track and Field - Class of 2023

At this time the UW recruiting class totals fifteen athletes: seven men and eight women.

The women’s distance group is receiving a big influx of talent in the latest signees, as five of the six transfers will join the women’s distance crew. Two are All-Americans from Kentucky: Tori Herman and Perri Bockrath. Herman is a multi-time All-American in cross country, the mile, 1500-meters, 3000-meters, and on the DMR, while Bockrath is a steeplechase All-American.

Two more come from Yale, following the path of current Husky and former Bulldog Kayley DeLay. Samantha Friborg is an 800-meter standout who is set to compete at NCAA East Prelims for a third time this week. Kosana Weir was eighth at cross country Regionals last fall for Yale.

Weir will be reuniting with her twin sister, India Weir, in Seattle. India Weir currently is a conference rival of Kosana’s, competing for Princeton. She ran a 16:13 5k PR this spring.

For the second straight year, the Huskies will add a conference champion men’s pole vaulter. Mathis Bresko, a Bellevue, Wash. native, just made 18-1 and won the Big West title for Cal Poly and is set to compete at NCAA Prelims this week. Bresko will be a Dawg in 2024. Another add to the vault squad is Simon Park, a Harvard transfer who made the cut for NCAA East Prelims his first two seasons, in 2022 and 2023.

Washington’s recent Pac-12 men’s team title got a large boost from the 400-meter hurdlers, as the group scored 21 points with a 1-3-4 finish. Stepping into that group next year will be a freshman from Duck territory, as Eugene sprinter and hurdler Boden Hanley joins the squad.

UW also signed another member to its strong men’s distance freshman class, as Thomas Diamond will come up from Australia. Diamond ran for Australia at the 2022 U20 World Championships and owns a 7:57 PR in the 3,000-meters.
